Secondly, you need to consider the deterioration of the panels. This is known as panel degradation. Over time, solar panels tend to suffer some degradation, but what you want to understand is how much. As too much will mean, less savings and higher electricity bills.
Below shows the solar panels we install in comparison to poor quality panels. You will note that the 5 panels at the top (our panels) show very little degradation (dark spots) over a 60-year period versus other panels that show severe degradation after only 5 years and before.
This means that the poor-quality panels will not work effectively after 5 years and your electricity costs will go up! By choosing our solar panels you will continue to make savings year after year and trust in the fact that they are backed by a 30-year warranty.
4. Who can I trust to give me the best advice?
Only trust a company that will invest the time to come out and look over your property. A quote over the phone is not reliable, as you may find that costs will increase on the day of installation. Also ask if the quote includes the solar panels, Solar inverter, installation and any additional hardware what may be required such as tilts, meter board upgrades (if required) etc.
This is a very important aspect of your decision, but just keep in mind that you get what you pay for. Looking at cheap deals on TV or in the paper (that are used to hook you in), may end up costing you more in the long run.

Choosing solar can be a daunting decision. It tends to be something everyone knows a little about, but not enough to make the right decision when it comes to putting solar on their home. So, where do you start??
Here are a few questions answered, to get you started...
1. Do I need solar?
A good place to start is your electricity bill. Does electricity cost you more than $300 per quarter? If it does, then you will financially benefit from solar. If your bill is under $300 per quarter during winter…then consider what will happen in summer. It is likely to increase due to the use of air conditioners, swimming pool usage and children at home during school holidays etc. Therefore, solar may still be financially beneficial across the entire year. We suggest that you consider the entire year’s cost of electricity to come to a decision. So, if your annual bill is more than $1200...then solar could be for you.
2. What size system do I need?
To answer this question, we look at these key pieces of information:
From here we determine if solar is right for you and then determine what is the best sized system for your home or business. As a guide a standard 3-4-bedroom home would normally require a 6.6kW system to get the best savings.
3. What solar panels should I put on my roof?
Not all solar panels are created equal. Please keep in mind that poor quality/cheap panels (Yes, the ones you see on TV) are cheap for a reason. What does cheap mean? It means the panels produce less energy saving (Kilowatts (kW)) per day and the panels deteriorate rapidly over time.
Firstly, you need to consider whether the panels can withstand the harsh Australian climate and whether they have been tested here in Australia. In most cases, we opt to provide our clients with Solar panels that have been tested at Desert Knowledge Australia, Alice Springs. These have proven to be one of the most efficient panels on the market and provide excellent savings at an affordable price.
The graph below shows the output of solar panels we install (the blue line) compared to 2 other panels of the same size. Over the course of a month, the solar panels we install, produced 28% more efficiency, which equals more savings for you.
